Russell Bacon ACS
Writer, Cinematographer, Father
I began my career in the Camera Department at ABC Television Sydney way back in 1979, working in diverse areas – news, current affairs and documentaries, but in the end specializing in Television Drama and Film.
Over the years I have photographed many high-end productions for the ABC and as a freelancer with my own company, both in Australia and overseas.
Shows such as ‘Police Rescue’, ‘Joh’s Jury’, the US series ‘Farscape’, ‘Sea Patrol’ and ‘Packed to the Rafters’ were my life for 36 years.
My three children grew up and left home with careers of their own. Then in 2014 a small surprise arrived – our little daughter – and I was a father again at 55 years of age.
So, I became a stay at home dad, and along with that came a new passion… writing.
I studied Freelance Journalism, and began penning my thoughts on the joys of being a later life father.
I have also written technical articles on cinematography, with more to follow soon.
Caring for my girls and writing is what I like to do. (I’m still a dab hand with a camera too!)
